Celebrating a 50th anniversary or a 50th birthday is exciting. Some people like to celebrate these occasions with a formal event where people get dressed up in nice dresses and suits and ties. However, if a fancy affair doesn’t thrill the couple or birthday person, throwing a 50s party might excite them.
If you’ve never experienced the 1950s, the movie Grease and the sitcom Happy Days are great reference points for costume ideas. You’ll see girls dressed in poodle skirts, knit sweaters, saddle shoes, and bobby socks. If they’re dating an athlete, she’s probably wearing his lettermen jacket. Some boys in the movie and television show wear cuffed jeans and white t-shirts with the sleeves rolled up.
Making the party a sock hop and playing tunes from the era will add authenticity to your event. Once your guests arrive, have them to leave their shoes at the door and hit the dance floor. You can even organize a dance contest for couples. You’ll definitely want to check out the dance contest in Grease for dance moves. Also, before the party is over, you must teach everyone how to Hand Jive.
Set up a soda fountain area and serve ice cream floats and soda. Also, have hula hoops available for a hula hoop contest and bubble gum in dishes for blowing bubbles. You can even put candy out on the tables from the 1950s, like Mike and Ikes, Tootsie Roll Pops, Candy Lipstick, and Button Candy.
Choosing a 1950s theme for a 50th anniversary or birthday party will be fun to plan and attend. What are some of your ideas for a 1950s inspired party?

If you love oceans, the beach, and seashells, you’ll enjoy planning a Mermaid Party. You can reference Disney’s The Little Mermaid for inspiration and even for party supplies. However, using your own passion for the “sea” create an underwater paradise.
1. Make an underwater paradise. Decorate your party area using blue and green decorations. Hang up different color fish. You can make these yourself or purchase precut fish shapes. If you have seashells, display them around the party area. Create an ocean picture on the party walls. Include seaweed, bubbles, fish, lobsters, and crabs in your wall art. However, if you can host your Mermaid Party at the beach, you won’t need any of these decorations.
2. Serve fishy food and snacks. Goldfish, fish sticks, fish nuggets or tuna fish make thematic additions to your Little Mermaid Party. Blue Jello cut in the shape of fish, sea horses, and starfish using cookie cutters make fun treats for kids.
3. Make ocean art. Buy colored sand and clear containers with tops. (You can use plastic water bottles.) Make colorful layers of sand in the containers by pouring different colors of sand on each level. Once the sand reaches the rim of the container, seal it.
If you have access to a pool, you can make this a Mermaid Pool Party. Also, if boys will be in attendance at your party, make it a Mermaid and Pirates Party. The girls can dress up as mermaids and the boys can wear pirate costumes.

The best party for toddlers is an interactive party that includes discovery, play and song. Of course, with these qualifications, just about every day is a party for toddlers. What makes a Toddler Time Party special is the intentional interaction with other toddlers and caregivers. A Toddler Time Party makes a fun second birthday party.
You’ll need balls of various sizes for kicking, throwing, rolling, and tossing fun. Small balls are especially nice for small hands, and huge balls are great for picture opportunities. If you decide to have a character-themed Toddler Time Party, look for a ball with the character on it.
While planning this party, incorporate a few ball races into the party. Have kids line up on one end of the party area and race to kick their balls to the opposite end. Don’t forget to blow up a toddler pool and fill it up with colorful balls to make a ball pit. These balls can be purchased at Walmart and Toys R Us.
Hula hoops are another toy worth including in your Toddler Time Party activities. Small hula hoops can be purchased at your local Dollar Store in the summer. With the price for the hula hoop so low, you can pick up enough to give to party guests as gifts. At the party, let the children hula hoop and roll the hoops. Hula hoops are even fun to toss up in the air.
Make sure to have a bubble machine blowing during the party. Toddlers will have fun chasing and catching the bubbles. Also, buy a few bubble wands to make giant bubbles to amaze little eyes.
A Toddler Time Party doesn’t have to be elaborate. You just need enough activities to keep little hands and feet busy.

A King and Princess Royal Ball is a special way to celebrate the bond between a father and daughter. Girls will love getting dressed up to be escorted to the royal ball by their father, the king. In essence, the King and Princess Royal Ball will be an evening for father and daughter to treasure.
The King and Princess Royal Ball should be held in a hall. The decorations should reflect the royal occasion. A net filled with pink and purple balloons should hang from the ceiling and be released at the end of the evening. In one area of the hall, two thrones should be set up for the royal pair. This will be used as the picture area if you don’t hire a professional photographer. Each table should have one pink rose in the center of the table for the centerpiece.
Girls should dress up in formal gowns or princess costumes. They’ll need to wear tiaras and princess capes if they have them. Also, they must wear their fanciest shoes. Fathers can wear tuxedos or a costume, as well. For this party, no outfit is too fancy or over-the-top.
When each pair arrives, a person dressed in period attire should be at the door to announce the family’s arrival. Then the princess and king will enter into the ballroom for dancing and royal refreshments. The refreshments can be finger sandwiches, cookies, cakes, and other pastries.
Planning this celebration for fathers and daughter will take thorough planning. With proper preparation, this event will be a magical evening for fathers and daughters.

Long gowns, tiaras, giggles, birthday cake and little girls are the signs of a Princess Party. Little girls, as young as 2-year-olds, dream of being little princesses. Movies, television shows, books, toys, and music point them in the princess direction. Here are a few ideas to help make a Princess Party spectacular.
1. Costumes. Invite girls to wear their prettiest princess costumes to the party. Have extra costumes available for those who don’t own a princess costume. If your daughter owns enough princess costumes to share, you don’t have to ask the girls to wear their own.
2. Bubbles. As the guests walk up to the party entrance, have a bubble machine blowing. Walking through a stream of bubbles will give your party a magical feel. Make sure the bubbles are in a location where bubble residue won’t cause any accidents.
3. Red Carpet. Have a red carpet available for the princesses to prance down as they are introduced to the royal court. Be sure someone takes pictures while they do a princess wave and smile for the camera. Your red carpet can be a plastic oblong table cloth.
4. Treasure Chest. Be sure to have a princess treasure chest at the Princess Party. Fill it with plastic and candy jewelry. Little princesses view tattoos, stickers, lip gloss, small toys as treasures, too.
The little princesses will have a royal good time at the Princess Party. In fact, they’ll have a royal ball.

A birthday party with wheels is fun for active kids. They’ll be able to celebrate and get their muscles moving. Below are a few party with wheels ideas.
1. Bicycling. Invite your child’s guests to bring their helmets and bikes for some bicycle fun. Let younger children decorate their bikes with colorful ribbons and streamers. Once the bikes are decorated, have a bicycle parade. Some children will have some tricks they want to show off in a bicycle rodeo. Let them do them only with parent’s permission. You can hire someone to demonstrate some bike tricks, too. Older children may want to have a few bicycle races.
2. Skating. You can’t go wrong hosting a birthday party at a skating rink. Many kids have their own skates, so they can bring them to the party. Many skating rinks go beyond offering just skating and have game room facilities, too. When the kids aren’t rolling around the rink, they can play video games. Check your local rink for party packages.
3. Skate Boarding. Check your local area for a skate boarding facility. You’ll want a spacious facility with ramps of different sizes. Having your party at a skate boarding facility is safer than setting up ramps in your backyard. The facility should be safer because the ramps are permanent fixtures. Once you’ve secured a location, invite your child’s guests to bring their skateboards to the party for a great time.
Parties with wheel are fun way to celebrate a birthday and keep kids active. They’ll be able to eat up the birthday cake, and then work it off on their bikes, skate, or skate boards.

If you or your child can’t resist wearing a cape, zooming around your home, and talking about saving the world from imminent danger, it’s time to throw a Superhero Party. A Superhero Party allows children and adults to pretend they are invincible.
In your invitation, let your potential guests know it’s a super hero costume party. They can invent their own superhero or dress as well-known super heroes. Older guests may be inclined to become characters like Superwoman, Supergirl, Superman, and Aquaman. Younger guests may be more familiar with Batman, Robin, the Incredibles, Spiderman, and the Hulk.
When your guests arrive, you can have a Superhero Challenge, so guests can display their super powers. Place a gift in a box before the party begins. During the party, see who can use x-ray vision to see (guess) what’s in the box. Another challenge could be a Powerful Breath challenge. Give the superheroes straws and see who can blow a bean the farthest. Of course, you can have a race to see which superhero is the fastest runner, walker, reader, or speaker. Another challenge would be to see who has the greatest sense of hearing. Go in another room and make a sound. Challenge the superheroes to tell you what made the noise. Have fun with these challenges. The challenges should be silly and not truly competitive at all.
When planning a Superhero Party, refer to cartoons, comic books, and movies for inspiration. You’ll have as much fun planning this party as the guests will have attending it.

Couples are so busy working, taking care of children and, in some cases, parents that they don’t have much time to enjoy each other. You should throw a Star Gazing Party for couples in the fall, so your friends and relatives can spend time snuggling with each other under the stars.
Talk to a local astronomer or a telescope sales associate to find out where is the best location in your area to star gaze. You can ask around online, too. A remote location, far away from traffic and pollution, is ideal. You can look into camping sites as possible party sites. Once you have a few suggestions talk to the managers or groundskeepers to find out about party hosting possibilities.
You’ll need to ask whether or not you can start a campfire in the area. Also, you’ll need to know about food and beverage restrictions, if any. Make sure to ask about noise levels, too. Also, ask about restroom facilities? Finding the answers to these questions will help you decide on a location.
Ideally, you want a location where you can have a campfire, so the couples can roast hotdogs and marshmallows. You’ll need to know about noise levels because the couples will be singing love songs. Also, love song will be played on a CD player, so couples can dance.
If you know an astronomer, invite him or her to the party, so they can point out constellations to the couples at the party. Make sure you set up one telescope for a closer look at the stars.
Your guests will appreciate this romantic Star Gazing Party. After this party ends, they’ll want you to plan more parties for couples.

Children love attending tea parties. Something about sipping tea from a tiny cup and eating cookies and tasty treats makes them happy. Throwing a Tea Party for children promises an afternoon of laughter. Below are a few tea party planning tips.
1. Set up a costume area. Have a box filled with capes, gowns, hats, jewelry, and shoes. Don’t forge to add firefighter, police officer, doctor, princess, and fairy costumes. The more costumes you have the better. Your costume area will need a floor length mirror, too.
2. Sing songs. Of course, at a Tea Party, your guests have to sing, “I’m a Little Teapot.” Have someone lead the children in this song while doing the movements. Another song to sing is “Polly, Put the Kettle On.”
3. Have a senses station. Many flavors of tea are available. Make different flavors for your tea party and have them available for children to sample and smell the aromas. You can open a few bags of tea and let the children see and feel tea.
4. Read a story. Many children’s stories exist about tea parties. David Kirk’s Miss Spider’s Tea Party is a good one to read to children. It teaches about difference, acceptance, and friendship.
5. Hide a teacup. Before your guests arrive, hide a tea cup in the party area. Ask the children to help you find your missing teacup. Once the teacup is discovered, reward all the children with a special treat.
6. Decorate teacups. Print out a picture of a plain teacup. Give children stickers, crayons, and markers to decorate their teacups.
7. Serve tea and snacks. Serve children tea or juice in teacups. Make finger sandwhiches, cupcakes, teacakes, and cookies for your little guests to nibble on at the Tea Party.
A Tea Party will keep your guests entertained for several hours. You’ll enjoy the smiles your party planning brings to their little faces.

Disney’s 101 Dalmatians (1996) is a classic tale of Dalmatian puppies’ capture and brave escape from the evil Cruella DeVil. If you’ve never seen Disney’s 101 Dalmatians movie, you must see it to observe Glenn Close’s costumes. They are stylish and striking. The use of black, white, and red in the movie should be referenced when decorating for a black and white formal event.
Black and white are high contrast colors, and when used together, they can create a sense of formality and elegance. Think of men dressed in black tuxedos and white shirts. Using black and white for a formal event, such as a banquet, makes sense. Imagine fifty or more round banquet tables draped with black linen tablecloths and a shorter white tablecloth on top of the black linen. Adding to the presentation are white china place settings on the table for each guest. Then visualize black linen napkins fanned out on each plate.
In the movie, Cruella’s red lipstick or some red accessory makes the black and white combination really pop. So, on the tables you imagined, picture red rose petals sprinkled on the table. Red linen napkins instead of black would be snazzier. For the centerpiece, a red candle sitting on a round or square mirror would be pretty.
The black and white colors add the contrast and the red adds the pop. Consider this color combination for your next formal or semi-formal event. Also, if you really want to use inspiration from Cruella DeVil, throw in some black and white animal print while decorating for your black and white event.
