Activities for a Tea Party

by geishaboy500
Children love attending tea parties. Something about sipping tea from a tiny cup and eating cookies and tasty treats makes them happy. Throwing a Tea Party for children promises an afternoon of laughter. Below are a few tea party planning tips.
1. Set up a costume area. Have a box filled with capes, gowns, hats, jewelry, and shoes. Don’t forge to add firefighter, police officer, doctor, princess, and fairy costumes. The more costumes you have the better. Your costume area will need a floor length mirror, too.
2. Sing songs. Of course, at a Tea Party, your guests have to sing, “I’m a Little Teapot.” Have someone lead the children in this song while doing the movements. Another song to sing is “Polly, Put the Kettle On.”
3. Have a senses station. Many flavors of tea are available. Make different flavors for your tea party and have them available for children to sample and smell the aromas. You can open a few bags of tea and let the children see and feel tea.
4. Read a story. Many children’s stories exist about tea parties. David Kirk’s Miss Spider’s Tea Party is a good one to read to children. It teaches about difference, acceptance, and friendship.
5. Hide a teacup. Before your guests arrive, hide a tea cup in the party area. Ask the children to help you find your missing teacup. Once the teacup is discovered, reward all the children with a special treat.
6. Decorate teacups. Print out a picture of a plain teacup. Give children stickers, crayons, and markers to decorate their teacups.
7. Serve tea and snacks. Serve children tea or juice in teacups. Make finger sandwhiches, cupcakes, teacakes, and cookies for your little guests to nibble on at the Tea Party.
A Tea Party will keep your guests entertained for several hours. You’ll enjoy the smiles your party planning brings to their little faces.
